Privacy Policy
MoovieCars is a free directory that connects people who own interesting vehicles with film, TV, commercial, and music video productions that need them. This page explains what information we collect, why, who else touches it, and what you can do about it.
Short version: we collect what we need to list your vehicle and put you in touch with productions. Your contact info is never shown publicly. We don't sell anyone's information and we don't run ad trackers.
What we collect
If you list a vehicle
- Your contact info: name, email, phone number, and city or address.
- Vehicle details: year, make and model, type, color, era, description, tags, ZIP code, and the photos you upload.
- How you heard about us: who referred you and where you found us, if you tell us.
If you create an account
- Your email address and name. If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email address, and profile picture with us. We don't get your Google password or access to anything else in your Google account.
- If you sign up with a password, it's handled by our login provider (Supabase). We never see or store it ourselves.
- Vehicles you save as favorites and lists you create.
If you contact an owner about a vehicle
- Your name, email, phone number (optional), production name (optional), and your message.
Technical info
- Like most websites, our hosting and security providers keep standard server logs (things like IP address, browser type, and the pages requested) to keep the site running and protect it from abuse.
- We use your browser's local storage to keep you signed in. We don't use advertising cookies or third-party analytics.
How we use it
- To publish your vehicle listing and help productions find it, including searching by location.
- To connect productions with vehicle owners, including sharing an owner's contact info with a production that's interested in their vehicle.
- To review new submissions and keep the directory legitimate.
- To email you about your listing, including approval notices and a check-in about every six months to confirm your vehicle is still available.
- To occasionally send updates about MoovieCars to owners. You can ask us to stop at any time.
- To keep the site secure and working.
What's public and what stays private
Public: your vehicle's photos, description, year, make and model, type, color, tags, and general location (city or ZIP area).
Private: your name, email, phone number, and address. These are never displayed on the site, and only MoovieCars admins can see them. When a production is interested in your vehicle, we share your contact info with that production so they can reach you directly about availability, scheduling, and terms. That's the point of listing, and it's covered in our Terms of Use.
We may feature approved listings on the MoovieCars Instagram account (@mooviecars) using your vehicle's photos and details. We never post owner contact information. If you'd rather your vehicle not be featured, just email us.
Who else handles your information
We use a small number of service providers to run the site. They only get what they need to do their job.
- Supabase: database, user accounts and sign-in, and photo storage.
- Resend: sends our emails, such as inquiries, approvals, and verification notices.
- Bluehost: hosts the website.
- Cloudflare: delivers the site quickly and protects it from attacks.
- Google: handles sign-in if you choose "Sign in with Google," and serves the fonts the site uses.
- OpenStreetMap (Nominatim): turns the city or ZIP code you type into a map location for distance search. Only that location text is sent.
- Anthropic: if you use the optional "auto-describe from photo" button, that photo is sent to Anthropic's AI service to draft a description. Nothing else is sent, and nothing is sent if you don't use the button.
Productions: as described above, we share a vehicle owner's contact info with productions interested in that vehicle. When a production sends an inquiry, its contact details reach us so we can make the connection.
We don't sell, rent, or trade personal information. We'd only disclose it otherwise if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of people or property.
How long we keep it
We keep your listing and contact info for as long as your vehicle is listed. If you remove your listing or ask us to delete your information, we delete it from the directory. Copies may stay in routine backups for a short time before they're overwritten. We keep inquiry records so we can follow up on connections between owners and productions, and we'll delete yours on request.
Your choices
- Edit your listing: sign in and open My Vehicles in your dashboard, or use the edit link in your approval email.
- See, correct, or delete your information: email us and we'll take care of it.
- Stop emails: reply to any email from us or contact us and we'll take you off the list. Listing-related notices stop when your listing is removed.
- Disconnect Google: you can remove MoovieCars' access at any time from your Google Account's security settings.
Security
The site runs over encrypted connections (HTTPS), access to owner contact info is limited to MoovieCars administrators, and passwords are handled by our login provider rather than stored by us. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Kids
MoovieCars is meant for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, we'll update this page and the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll let listed owners know by email.
